Darkness-Chapter 1

We sat next to Toby’s sleeping form as my best friend Sarah gently rocked his cradle back and forth. I had bugged her continuously until she finally agreed to tell me the story of her adventure in the Labyrinth again. As she told me about when she had first wished the goblins would take Toby away, I asked “What did you say Sarah?” She had always been reluctant to tell me before and I was hoping she would tell me today. “Sara you know I can’t say it or…” Sarah paused. “Come on Sarah! You said it yourself. Jareth’s gone!” “I guess so…” Sarah finally consented. “I said ‘I wish the goblin king would take you away right now!’ ” Lightning flashed outside and the lights flickered out. “Sara?” Sarah called out. No answer. The lights slowly glowed back to life and she looked around. Toby was still in his crib and she breathed a sigh of relief. Then she seemed to only just then remember me. She looked toward where I was sitting and gasped. My chair was empty. “Sara!” she cried. A voice she knew all too well echoed around her “Once said those words cannot be taken back…” Then the voice laughed. “Jareth.” Sarah muttered with despise. “I’m back Sarah…” Jareth’s voice echoed. “Aaugh!” Sarah yelled as all around her faded and she was standing at the entrance to the Labyrinth once again. Jareth was standing in front of her. And he was smirking.

“You know the drill Sarah…” Jareth said, shrugging. “Except I upgraded the Labyrinth. So this time you have 13 days instead of 13 hours. If you fail…I keep the girl!” He laughed again. Sarah ran up to punch him in the face but she passed right through him. The rest of Jareth’s form faded away, leaving only an echoing voice. “13 days or she’s one of us forever…” Sarah beat her fist into the ground several times before finally standing up and entering the Labyrinth.
